Our experience with Court Atkins made our new residential home design and construction a much simpler and enjoyable project. At the initial planning meeting, William and James clearly outlined their program and approach and explained the critical points for designing our home. They asked numerous questions to more fully understand our goals. Once we expressed our desire to build a Low Country home design, they listened and then provided easy to understand recommendations for both internal and external design based on their many experiences. With their valuable input we selected options that we would have easily overlooked, such as several energy saving ideas. Most importantly, during the entire process, the Court Atkins organization was always available to respond to any question on an immediate basis, thus eliminating any design or construction delays.
We contracted with Court Atkins Architects to provide construction blue prints for our build-out in the spring of 2008. We found them to be very professional, accommodating to changes required, and extremely knowledgeable about upcoming changes to the building code. The team also made good suggestions as to how we could save money both on their services as well as the construction costs. We had a limited budget, and had found it very difficult to find a firm to help us. Court Atkins worked with our budget and was upfront with all charges.
My husband and I wanted to provide to any future potential clients of Court Atkins a brief overview of their service to us and our process in selecting this professional firm.
We had never built a house before and were not real savvy on the building adventure. Our decision was to interview 4 different architectural firms prior to contracting with one specific firm. We interviewed firms in Charleston, Savannah, Beaufort, and Court Atkins. In the interview process we looked at range of architectural styles, continuum of services offered, cost, professionalism and customer service.
In the contracting phase of our relationship, Court Atkins provided assistance on a continuum of service options for us to select from with cost for options being identified prior to contracting. We changed options and asked for additional services during our building process. Court Atkins accommodated the request to a mutually beneficial scenario.
William Court in particular was our contact along with Kathy Allen in the front office. All our interactions with both of them were so professional. The end house design was absolutely awesome and fit the low country cottage feel we had requested. The design, plan, construction process, and site inspection was easily done from a remote setting with Court Atkins. All billings were reasonable and itemized for our review.
Most of all we never felt that any of our many requests were a problem for William to review. The professional calm nature that William maintained in coordinating the construction portion of the building worked smoothly for all parties. Our builder was a cost plus builder and William helped us move the process along in a very positive manner by assisting us with communication with the builder, developing a reasonable timeline, and finding alternative suppliers of services to compress our time and associated cost.
We would secure Court Atkins as our architect again on any building project with the seamless building process we experienced on this project. We have offered to be a reference for them.
I have known William Court and James Atkins for over 6 years and have built several custom homes with their firm. As architects I know both William and James to be amazingly creative and extremely detailed with a practical approach to problem solving. As businessmen their reputation in the community is outstanding and their character is impeccable. I highly endorse Court Atkins Architects and would recommend their firm without hesitation.
I am very pleased to recommend Court Atkins Architects to you. My wife, Mary and I hired them two years ago to design our home at Brays Island Plantation in Sheldon, SC. This was the first home that we had built from start to finish, and we needed an architectural firm that would work closely with us and help us through what is a very complex process. We interviewed several firms and settled on Court Atkins based on their focus on residential projects and their personal focus on clients. The principals are very much involved with every client throughout the process.
We also gave them two challenging mandates: 1. Design a home that pleases two people with differing ideals (one modern and one traditional), and 2. design a home that can be built within a specified budget. Court Atkins scored on both counts. Mary and I are both delighted with our now finished home, and it was completed within our pre-specified budget.
Additionally, Court Atkins developed a very constructive working relationship with the architectural review board at Brays Island, which facilitated the approval process. They also formed a close working relationship with our builder, which made it possible to quickly resolve any construction design issues and keep the project on track.
In short, the entire experience of building a new home was far more fun and stress free than we might have expected, based on tales from friends and acquaintances. We credit Court Atkins for a creative, well conceived plan and doing whatever was necessary to see that it was carried out as intended.
I am pleased to recommend the architectural firm of Court Atkins Architects, Inc.
I have worked with William Court and James Atkins over the past several years on a number of custom residential homes. The work of the principals and all members of their firm has always been very professional and of the highest quality. They have always exceeded the design requirements and schedules of the projects. They have worked smoothly with Architectural Review Boards in a number of communities.
I anticipate a long and continuing relationship with this firm.
We are the proud owners of a home designed by Court Atkins Architects of Bluffton. We started with only a very vague notion of what we wanted: a low country style house with a refined look, but with more definite ideas about what our living space requirements were to be. Right from the initial meetings Court Atkins seemed to have an exceptional grasp of the design and quickly generated conceptual drawings. Over the course of the design there would arise many decisions for us to make, but our architects were always most helpful in guiding us to making those decisions; they were extremely flexible in making any tweaks that we initiated. The conceptual design rapidly evolved to the full set of architectural documents.
Our proposed design required staged approvals by our plantation's architectural review board, a group known for their attention to detail and formalities. Court Atkins met with our review board at each step of the process, clearly communicated what was proposed, and answered questions and concerns with aplomb and authority. As a result we were able to win approval with very few required modifications from the review board. Construction likewise, went smoothly without surprise.
As impressive as the home looked on the plans, we are still awed by the beauty and visual impact of the dwelling in its finished form. It stands as a tribute to the skill of the architects who designed it. It was a true pleasure working with these fine professionals.
